PRIMARY &
SECONDARY EDUCATION
- Strong community support for the public school system,
progressive teaching methods, high academic standards and small
class sizes all contribute to the quality of elementary and secondary
education in our region.
Individual attention to the specific needs, goals and aspirations
of each child is facilitated by teachers, administrators, special
educators, aides and parent volunteers working with the school.
For those who prefer parocial education, there are two Catholic
elementary schools in our region - St. Michaels
in Montpelier and St. Monicas in Barre.
For children beyond the primary grades, there is a wide selection
of elective courses with special enrichment programs, as well
as advanced placement courses for the gifted.
The Barre
Regional Vocational-Technical Center
serves the entire region with comprehensive programs in
a variety of fields for both students and adults:

- Business & Computer Technology - Levels 1 & 2

- Foods/Hospitality
- Graphic Communication & Video Technology

UNIVERSITIES
& COLLEGES
- There are six colleges and universities in the Central Vermont
region offering either two-year associate degrees, four-year
bachelors degrees or masters degrees:
Union Institute of VT College
in Montpelier, part of Norwich University, offers a non- traditional,
four-year liberal arts program designed to allow adults to persue
a BA on a full-time basis while continuing to work full-time
and raise families. A more structured teacher licensure program
is also available through this program. Norwich is a military
based school with classes in Northfield, Brattleboro and Montpelier.
They also offers low or no-residency programs for adult learners
New England Culinary Institute
in Montpelier is one of the finest cooking schools in the nation.
NECI offers top-notch training for aspiring chefs, many of whom
become chefs at prestigious restaurants around the world.
Community College of Vermont is a state-wide
continuing education college offering two-year degrees with its
main campus in Montpelier. Classes are held at various locations
throughout Vermont, including Montpelier.
Woodbury
College in Montpelier is a two-year
college offering courses in paralegal, mediation/conflict management,
and prevention & community development.
Goddard College
in Plainfield is a privately endowed co-ed college with progressive
liberal and fine arts programs.
Other conveniently located colleges and universities, including
Vermont
Law School, Vermont Technical College,
University of Vermont,
Champlain
College, St. Michaels College
and Dartmouth College, offer undergraduate and graduate
degrees in medicine, business & economics, engineering, education
and anthropology, to name a few.
These colleges and universities are excellent sources for employee
recruitment!
