Jet Service Envelope Company was created in 1987 as a subdivision of the Modern Printing Co. which was founded in 1915 by V. Lafargo, a publisher of Italian and English language newspapers in Barre. Garth W. Blow purchased the company in 1945 and expanded the the business into the leading printing establishment in Barre. In 1957, the Granite City Press was purchase and consolidated in the Modern Printing Co., which continued to grow and move to bigger locations.
In the 60's Modern Printing Co. added offset press and was able to better serve the public, by combining offset and letterpress, a money saving technique that was relativly unheard of at the time. The next innovation was the addition fo the Jet Envelope Press, which reduced the customers price of envelopes by 25 percent. In 1987, it was decided that the envelope printing part of Modern Printing was out growing the firm's space.
Jet Service Envelope Co., under the direction of Vice-President Jeffrey A. Blow, began operating in late 1988 and moved to a 19-acre location near the South Barre access road (Rt. 63 just off I-89). With three Jet Presses, two-color presses and perfecting capabilities, Jet Service Envelope Co. is now printing an average of 15 million envelopes a month.
