Our main campus is at Grace Farm on 55 acres of beautiful rolling hills and orchards, with a newly renovated farmhouse and barn. It is located in East Montpelier less than fifteen minutes from downtown Montpelier. Here we offer programs from age 3 through 13, Early Education through 6th grade, with a grade to be added each year up through 8th grade. We also offer a Morning Garden program one day per week for two and three year olds along with their parents. Our Child's Garden campus is located on Northfield Street in Montpelier and offers a mixed-age kindergarten. |
Philosophy: Orchard Valley School is dedicated to the principles of Waldorf education, honoring the individuality and creativity of each child. The children and faculty of OVS make full use of the outdoors for study, play, and natural discovery. The natural setting of both campus locations reinforces the curriculum in fostering a genuine reverence for the earth. The rich academic and artistic curriculum - based on an understanding of the child's needs at each stage of development, from the early years through young adulthood - is now practiced in nearly 900 schools worldwide. |
| Curriculum: The Waldorf curriculum teaches traditional subjects in innovative ways. The arts are used to present the academic curriculum with beauty, grace and reverence. The artistic process unfolds throughout the grades. In the early grades, students learn artistic technique by imitating the teacher's example. Gradually, the child's own inner creativity is expressed as it comes alive for the child. By guiding each child's artistic expression, the teacher encourages the development of attitudes, habits, and life patterns. |
